  113. INTRODUCTION

  115. Astro-World 2.1 is an Astrological program for Windows 3.1 with print
  116. and screen evaluations for Radix-, Synastry- and Transit Horoscopes.
  117. Furthermore there is a text evaluation of the birth-chart of about 25
  118. pages. 6 different House- systems the most common being Placidus, Koch
  119. as well as Equal-House. Astro-World is capable of the following
  120. features:

  122. *  Radix-Horoscope, on-screen and printer (25 pages.)
  123.  
  124. *  Synastry-Horoscope (about 5 pages)
  125.  
  126. *  Transit-Horoscope at the moment without interpretation.

  128. *  An integrated data-base for people and places. Both data-bases can be
  129. expanded to around 2.1 billion entries.

  131. * The included database of places has about 2000 localities. Additional
  132. location databases are available, sorted by country, and by state for
  133. the USA (total 150,000 places worldwide).

  135. *  Up to ten Horoscopes can be displayed simultaneously in different
  136. windows on the screen.

  138. *  Display windows also include a legend, an Aspectarium, and chart
  139. data.

  141. *  The chart, table and font can be sized or adapted individually in

  166. This program is not only targeted at Astrologers, but also for people
  167. who prefer to deal with Astrology in a less serious way! If you just
  168. want to print horoscopes for you and your friends, this program might be
  169. it!

  171. Even for the serious Astrologer, this program in its present version
  172. might leave a few wishes unfullfilled. However, you will quickly note
  173. the numerous efforts made to improve the present version in comparison
  174. to its predecessors -- especially with respect to the professional
  175. version. Some of the recognized items for future addition are
  176. Directions, Progressions, and a planetary clock. We will try to develop
  177. this program in a way that both groups of potential users become happier
  178. and happier as time goes by, particularly in the Professional Version.

  181. make money by selling horoscopes. It is not unusual to ask for $25.00
  182. and the professional quality output from Astro-World should more than

  188. version are nearly finished (Target release Feb' 1995) Norwegian,

  192. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  193. *******************
  194. The program was developed on an Intel-486-computer with a VGA-screen and
  195. a Postscript-Laser-printer under Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.2. Astro-World
  196. 2.1 will run on every (DOS) Computer equipped with Windows 3.1 or
  197. higher. To obtain a clear graphic image, a VGA display of at least 14
  198. inches is required.

  200. The use of a Laser-printer or HP-DeskJet 550C will provide excellent
  201. Printout-quality. Often, the resulting quality of a matrix-printer is
  202. highly dependant on the abilities of the installed driver. Alas, we have
  203. experienced some drivers to have problems with Horoscope-chart printing.
  204. In such cases, our advice would be to try different fonts and sizes.

  206. INSTALLATION
  207. ************
  208. The whole Package will be delivered on two 3-1/2" Diskettes, labeled
  209. "Setup-Disk" and "Disk 2". If you downloaded the files, make sure that
  210. they are extracted and copied to two diskettes.
  211.  
  212. Now, follow the Setup-Instructions in the file: AWINSTALL.TXT
  213.  
  214. After the installation of the program you must add the TrueType font
  215. ASTRO.TTF
  216. The AstroWorld on-line help file (Astro.HLP), contains many details for
  217. installation and troubleshooting. Simply click on INFO, then Help for
  218. information.

  237. In case you encounter any Problems with the Program (especially with the
  238. printout), please refer to the chapter "Known Problems /
  239. Troubleshooting" in the Help-System. It is a compendium of all
  240. questions, which have been asked of me by dozens of users during the
  241. last two years. Thus, one might say, it contains my whole treasury of
  242. knowledge about problems to date. According to my experience, the
  243. probability of finding a solution here is very high!

  391. ===== Installation =====================================

  393. Astro-World Installation
  394.  
  395. To install Astro-World, run windows. It is recommended that no other
  396. programs are running while the installation takes place, which is just
  397. good practice.
  398.  
  399. Insert Setup disk #1 into the floppy drive and from the Program Manager,
  400. click File and then Run. Type A:\Setup (or B:\Setup if you using the B:
  401. drive). The setup will ask if you wish to install the software on
  402. C:\ASTRO (you can type in the drive and directory of your choice here).
  403. Click OK and insert disk #2 when asked to do so.
  404.  
  405. After installing the program, it is absolutely necessary to integrate
  406. the Astro-Font into the list of installed fonts: It contains the symbols
  407. of the Zodiacal Signs and the Planets. If you forget to install this
  408. font, you'll find ordinary letters instead of Planets and Zodiacal Signs
  409. on your print-out!
  410.  
  411. To install the Astro font, proceed as follows: Start the Control Panel
  412. out of the Windows Program Manager. 1 Choose the menu-item Fonts 2 Click
  413. the button Add 3 Choose the file, from the directory in which you have
  414. installed Astro World (the default is C:\ASTRO). 4 If you have chosen
  415. the correct directory, the desired font: Astro (TrueType) appears in the
  416. upper box under List of fonts. Click on Select All and then OK. 5 The
  417. font will be installed and displayed in the font window. 6 The
  418. installation of Astro-Font is complete. Finally, click on Close.
  419.  
  420. That's it! You will find a significant amount of information in the Help
  421. file (click on Help from within Astro-World). Please note that all of
  422. the text and Help files are being processed to accommodate US-English
  423. and will be re-released for version 2.1.
  424.  
  425. Late notes: Old versions (before Mar 1, 1993) of SMARTDRV.SYS default to
  426. enable write-cache. This problem is not limited to AstroWorld. This can
  427. result in ASTRO.INI and database entries not being written to the disk
  428. properly and a loss of data if anything goes wrong. Recommendation:
  429. Update SMARTDRV.SYS, or disable the Write-cache with the option /X
  430. (SMARTDRV.SYS /X).
  431.

  433. Including additional Databases
  434.  
  435. In order to integrate additional databases you should proceed
  436. as follows:
  437. 1) Put the diskette into floppy-disk drive A:
  438. 2) Select the menu-item File, then, Include Additional Locations.
  439. 3) Select the database of locations <FILE.ASC> and confirm your
  440. selection with OK.
  441.  
  442. The procedure may take several minutes. In case you are familiar
  443. with DOS, there is a faster method:
  444.  
  445. - Copy the file from the diskette into a temporary directory on
  446.   your hard-disk-drive (or better still a RAM-drive if you have
  447.   set one up).
  448.  
  449. - Select the menu-item Include Additional Locations.
  450.  
  451. - Now the program will complain about there being no diskette in
  452.   drive A.
  453.  
  454. - Select Cancel. Now you will be asked for the file-name. Select
  455.   the path and filename on your hard-disk-drive.

  465. Astro-World is not directly executable from CD-Rom as it makes use of
  466. read-writable databases.
  467. However Installation from a CD-ROM is quite simple. Just copy the disks
  468. in two appropriate subdirecories on the CD-ROM like
  469. \AW21E\DISK1 and \AW21E\DISK2
